Margalla Avenue gets road lights – Night travel on Margalla Avenue is now safer

The rising traffic flow on Margalla Avenue is evidence of the comfortable and secure travel between the West-side and East-side of Islamabad.

Finally road lights are lighting-up the Margalla Avenue for the residents of Islamabad travelling between Islamabad main city to housing societies along the G.T. road. Earlier on it was considered unsafe to travel on Margalla Avenue due to the absence of lights and poor road conditions. However, Margalla Avenue today offers a safe, pleasant, and faster means of commute for travelers entering or exiting main Islamabad city – both in daylight and at night-time.

Margalla Avenue has reduced traffic load on the Srinagar Highway. Earlier known as Kashmir Highway, the Srinagar Highway was the sole west-east entry point to Islamabad. All the traffic from Lahore to Islamabad Motorway or M-2, inbound traffic from Rawalpindi city and travelers from Taxila, Wah Cantt., and housing societies on G.T. road was converging prior to the opening of Margalla Avenue.

With the opening of the Margalla Avenue, now the traffic from Taxila, Wah Cantt. and housing societies on G.T. road would prefer taking the Margalla Avenue. These housing societies include MPCHS B-17, Margalla Town D-17 and Engineers Cooperative Housing Society D-18. This would reduce the traffic load on the Srinagar Highway by about 40-50 percent.

As for the naming of this project the Capital Development Authority (CDA) officially calls it Khayaban-e-Margallah. However it is still being called Margalla Road or more recently Margalla Avenue by the commuters. Eventually whatever the masses start calling it that would essentially become it’s name for all practical purposes.
